  • Yeah the more I look into it, I see that it takes direct inspiration from Total Annihilation and SupCom. I messaged my friends who used to play Forged Alliance with me and at least a couple of them have already played this game.

I’ve been waiting for over a decade for a new game in this mold. It’s not just an RTS, it’s a very specific kind of strategic RTS that has a much greater scale than a tactical RTS like Starcraft. I like that it’s more focused on macro than micro.

And the fact you can do 16 player matches is just epic. Supreme Commander was originally limited to 4v4 and then they eventually modded in the ability to play 6v6, but it would frequently cause the framerate to drop to slideshow levels. Can’t wait to try this game out!

  • And I am calling Amazon’s “just walk out” service also a con because it was touted as automatic, even if also being mostly human labour.

That’s not what a con is. A con is a deliberate scam. Amazon’s automated checkout simply didn’t function as effectively as intended. They presumably lost money on the venture because the automation was unreliable. Nothing about this situation was a deliberate attempt to pay over 1,000 employees to check an automated system’s work.

The Mechanical Turk is an interesting story and I’m glad you linked it, but it’s not all that similar.

  • Why does it say share more_vert and volume_up after most of your paragraphs?

Generally, it seems like you’re projecting events fairly far into the future without much certainty.

Gods are seen as higher beings that create lesser beings. But if we create a higher being than ourselves, does that make us gods? The higher being created would be even more god-like than us, the gods. So who is god then?

I think it’s an interesting hypothetical. However, the problem comes in defining higher and lower beings, which is subjective. Furthermore, there are fundamental qualitative differences between biological and artificial intelligences, so it may be a case of comparing apples to oranges.

Again, it’s all so hypothetical that it’s nearly impossible to make any meaningful argument.

  • I’m grateful for all Lemmings, but at this particular moment, mostly you.

Even as we recognize that Lemmy is a collective effort where every user can play a part, there are some roles which are more important than others. You’ve been an excellent admin for your own users, but also a unifying force for the network as a whole, neutralizing and bridging the spaces between many other Lemmy servers.

This post is the clearest example of that to date, but your contributions have always exhibited a good sense of diplomatic tact along with strong internal values and principles.

    Kudos to you @sunaurus@lemm.ee.
