i had this cuban moreno friend who was overly proud of his spanish heritage and would make fun of my chicano spanish sometimes. each time he did it in public, i would shut him up by asking someone in the group which one of us was latino which one was american; my garden variety mexican looks always got picked as latino and his afrocubano ass got picked as american. it was especially delicious if the person i asked knew that he could speak spanish.

i thoroughly enjoyed using american racism to put him in his place and it’s probably the only time in my life where that racism worked to my advantage. lol

add to that list better gas mileage than most new cars of the same type and i feel the same way bout my '08 ranger. i’ve had to upgrade the infotainment system 3x already because of the planned obsolescence built into them.

and here i was thinking that i was ahead of the curb with my 16 year old car because it gets better gas mileage than most new cars of the same type.

i like the police warnings and the apps that automatically look for a better route in real time when there’s traffic; which means i’ll be keeping my already 16 year old car until i die or parts run out, i guess

they use the same algorithm across all of their companies so selling it would create a strong competitor and the chinese government is likely to block the sale anyways. tiktok revenue is a small slice of bytedance’s income, so it makes sense to swallow the relatively small loss to keep their product intact when it’s crystal clear that it’s far superior to anything else atm.

i became a reddit user on almost the same day and i think i was slower than you to delete my content because i could no longer access my posts older than a few months when i tried; i always wondered if that was intentional and now i have evidence that it was.

i switched to reddit because my previous social media platform did the same thing reddit did (also at around a decade plus of using it); i’m still kicking myself for falling into the same cycle again and i really hope the fediverse doesn’t do the same thing.

I too would love to see us do better than the two deeply flawed parties we have now. I wish we had a better voting system that allowed better parties.

i can understand the “better red than dead” voters because they’re getting what they want; so i mostly blame the “vote blue no matter who” voters because they have never gotten what they want and continue to believe that choosing the lesser evil option will somehow make things better even though it never has and never will.

i’ve voted democrat before and will likely again; it’s fascinating how people interpret a message in a way that wasn’t said and that’s not meant as an indictment on you.

unfortunately for me and many others like me, politics is life due to simply existing at the intersection of every major national political topic for the last 35 years.

calling it “politics” divorces it from reality and frames it as purely theoretical even though it’s not true; anyone calling it that is either clueless, privileged, or dog whistling. (sometimes 2 or all 3).

vote for a third party if you’re in a safely red or blue state and vote your conscience otherwise.
