I’m a person who tends to program stuff in Godot and also likes to look at clouds. Sometimes they look really spicy outside.
yup, renamed it to […].rules.backup. Thanks for responding though!
why u delete your comment?
Just tried it, and sadly that didn’t change anything after a reboot.
Fair, but they supported it a bit before that too I think. Like, they allowed it to show up in the login.
Unfortunately that did not fix it for me. I have now renamed the file to […].backup but it still only displays X11 options.
Wait really? We have an official open kernel module for the nvidia cards now? I’m assuming that the actual driver is still closed, right?
Fair. I was trying to install some latest versions if Dev packages because Debian seemed to lack behind (some gtk-4 package was out of date). I need it for building this FOSS VR software called “envision”.
You were entirely correct. Thank you very much for your response, I really was missing the header files for the kernel so the driver couldn’t interact with the system (as far as I can tell). The nouveau driver automatically kicked in on first reboot after installing the header files and I’m now downloading the dkms package again (using Gnome).
I have now fixed the apt issue. Biw I’m just stuck with the startx not working. I’ve already completely reinstalled my nvidia drivers but I still get the same errors in the Xorg logs. In case you are wondering, these are the logs

It was a link to a picture of the terminal… I don’t have a better way to do this. https://files.catbox.moe/9boyn2.jpg
I have now taken a look at the Xorg log files and they seem to be complaining about it not finding the nvidia kernel module, even though I just installed the nvidia-driver package. This is the complete file content

OK so when installing the the unsigned kernel, I get an error that the normal version isn’t installed. But when I try to install the normal version, it complains that the unsigned version isn’t installed…
Fair. The first thing I did was yesterday where I tried to add testing, experimental and unstable packages to apt. That didn’t quite work sonI reverted my changes my removing the .list files and recovering the previous default sources.list file. Then today In started up my PC and this was what I got, a black screen with a blinking white cursor. The apt-fix-broken is just something I picked up on during my many times I had to fix my distro… So that was one of the first things i tried after trying the startxcommand.
You speak of apt fix, what is that?
When trying to install the one kernel I get exactly the same message as the first image in the post. The first error hints at an error in a posts installation script, which I have had issues with before. I used to delete these script to get over errors aaand that worked fine for some time. In case there has been some change in the error I’m getting, I haven’t picked up on it yet. Either way, here’s the output
EDIT: At the top of the message it says " Newest version already installed" so it seems to be blocking itself? Like I’m trying to install a package and it’s like -But I need that package to build this one-
What exactly do you mean by “press”? In which direction? I have plugged the cable into the headset until it kinda clicked, like a thump, so I thought that would be enough. So yeah, press in which direction? Also I have tried all the steamVR versions, so yeah that’s likely not the issue
I am using the apt version of steam, so that should be fine
You mean I should buy only the headset new, right? I think that makes loads of sense. Unfortunately right now the headset is not available.
… I’ll also be real with you and tell you something terrible. I installed Windows just to test if it works there and it did not. The same red lights, the same error. This seems like either my graphics card has some problems with it, or the headset is simply faulty. Unfortunatly I did not purchase this one new, but used, so no warrenty. It was for “only” 400€, and it came with perfectly functioning base stations and controllers. It’s “just” the headset display which does not work. You think it would make more sense to purchase a new headset specifically or to sell all the base stations and controllers to purchase a simple htc vive 1 ?
Is there a reason windows users don’t get this error?
