It’s the truth. Putin wanted this war and the Russian people have been indoctrinated into following him blindly. The allied carpet-bombings of Nazi Germany caused untold suffering, but they were necessary to break the German will to fight. Hitler could’ve stopped the carpet bombing by surrendering. He could’ve prevented them from ever occurring, if he hadn’t started wars with all neighbouring countries. Just as Hitler then, Putin now can stop this war. And it is Putin that could’ve prevented this war from ever taking place, if he hadn’t invaded. But he did invade Ukraine. The untold number of crimes against humanity have been committed by the Russian army under his watch and it was his decision to send over 600.000 Russian troops to get crippled or killed in Ukraine. It is his war that just caused this man to lose his wive and three daughters (trigger warning: r*ddit). I truly hold no sympathy for any Russian that chooses to participate in this invasion. Whatever happens to them, they deserve it.

“They did it first and continue to do it” is a pretty good reason in my book. The more decicive Russian losses are, the faster public sentiment will turn against Putin.

If your enemy makes it very clear that they want to see you dead and your nation destroyed no matter the cost, why should you be beholden to giving them an advantage? Ukraine won’t win with moral superiority.

Russia is already using thermite charges, thermobaric weapons and tear gas. They get what’s coming to them.

Are you of the opinion that people don’t already use internet resources, libraries, interviews and other educational avenues to inform themselves? Many here seem to be needing an education on how to use Wikipedia responsively, they seem to think that one is unable to engage with a wikipedia article critically. I just checked the article for BP, as one of the blogs linked here claimed that over 44% of BP’s wikipedia page was corporate speak. The ‘controversies’ section is one third to half the wikipedia page in length. As a jumping-off point for further study, it is perfectly adequate.

Of course no single site is perfect. Editors may always have ulterior motives. That is what the editing history is for. But with a federated wiki, the only thing you’ll get is multiple different versions that all present their oen little “truths” and at that point you can just go back and search the entire internet for blogs, just like the website you sent me is a blog.

Which also means that marxist.wiki/article/communism will be completely different from libertarian.wiki/article/communism. I think I will take Wikipedia’s attempt at impartiability over a “wikipedia” destined to just devolve into islands of “alternative facts”

You are underestimating, by a mile, the editorial effort that goes into fighting scam and spam, vandalism and lies. Wikipedia does have a support structure to do that, I doubt instance admins have the same kind of resources.

That is one thing Lemmy is not good at: Protecting its users legally. No admin can be expected to hire a lawyer to fight off those companies.

As long as they are used defensively, weapons are needed. And having the latest and greatest weapons really helps. We can see this play out in Ukraine clear as day. If Ukraine had more weapons in the beginning, Russia hadn’t invaded. If they had anyways, Ukraine would’ve been able to rebuff them with more force. Whenever the West does send weapons to Ukraine, they have an immediate and devastating effect on Russian troops. But because we are sending so little, the war bogs down into a WW1-style slugfest. Also, the ammunition given by the West allows Ukraine to do targetted strikes mostly. Russiaon the other hand is just sending wave attacks, accepting massive civilian casulties.
