I could probably say the same about AI and crypto and mega yachts sure
But healthcare, housing, education, childcare, sustainable green energy, sustainable food production… All of them seem way more important than sending more junk into orbit.

Seriously how are space launches a priority right now when we are facing global ecological collapse
They are connected but in practice there is definitely a big separation between lemmy and mastodon… you see mastodon posts on mastodon, lemmy posts on lemmy. yes its possible to view lemmy posts on mastodon but its fucking garbage integration, i have never seen a lemmy posts boosted on mastodon it just doesn’t happen… if I see a mastodon post here its in the form of a screen shot… the communities are effectively separate
Mastodon is pretty great for queer people. Better than lemmy I would say (and obviously better than the mainstream apps) …
Thats a technical issue that likely can be solved. I doubt some feedback loop of training data will be the downfall of AI… The way to stop it is to refuse to use it( lets be real the regulators arnt gana do shit)
Possibly they are trying to use the data generated by the workers to train an AI
looks around at the fediverse uh we kinda already are…
im sure using AIM made you an AI expert too
Can we stop with this “not real AI” meme… it’s a painfully dull response at this point, why does the goal post have legs? Just because Penrose thinks quantum mumbo jumbo is needed doesn’t mean he is right, machine learning is completely outside his field of expertise.
Why would that be required for understanding? Presumably during the training it would have made connections between words it saw. Now that the training has stopped it hasn’t just lost those connections, sure it can’t make new connections but why is that important for using the connections it already has?
Copied this from another post I made… things make more sense when you realize what their true core principle is.
There is a good Adam Conover podcast episode where he interviews Corey Robin. In the episode Robin states the main premise of his book, which is that the central underlying ideology of the right is the belief that some people are better than others and deserve to be in power. A lot of the rights’ beliefs and ideas evolve over time but they evolve in service of that core idea. It’s the one thing that stays consistent over time going back to the french revolutions.
Multiracial, multiethnic, international cooperation, helping the homeless, helping the poor. No matter how you spin it by trying to convince them of the benefits ect, the right will never be on board. They don’t believe those groups deserve help or should be helped. They fundamentally believe it is morally good to depower certain groups and empower other groups.
That one idea explains so much of the rights blatant hypocrisy. Welfare disproportionality going to red states is good because it’s going to the good people. Rich people getting richer is good because it’s going to the good people. Hurting minorities is good because they are the bad people, helping them is bad. Some people are innately worthy and some people are not. Anything the good people do is good, anything the bad people do is bad. The same action can be good or bad depending on who is doing it.
My goto for easy multi threading is lock free queues. Generate work on one thread and queue it up for another thread to process. Easy message passing and stuff like that. It doesn’t solve everything but it can do a lot if you are creative with them. As long as you maintain a single thread ownership of memory and just pass it around the threads via message passing on queues, everything just sorta works out.
Capitalism is the only system that can make things dont you kno?
Mainstream media… left wing… all corporate media is neo liberal and firmly on the right.
An astounding number of people seemingly have no ability to do critical thinking
My feeling on the issue is that for a lot of people this sort of thinking is just not needed, at least not on the level to do actual academic research. I don’t think its inherent to who they are but just a reflection of the skills they have needed to develop throughout their lives. There is no pressure to develop a rigorous scrutiny of information if there is no consequences to getting the wrong answer. They can survive and thrive well without it. None of their peers are checking them. They might even do better without those skills, more resources to use developing the skills that matter to their lives.
A person who pursues stem as a career has something to lose if they get the wrong answer. Or other areas like journalism ect, I don’t want to imply its only stem people.
just my 2c
This might be a dumb question… but uh… what are the alternatives in the modern US?
How do people meet nowadays? Like there are no 3rd places left, I dont want to pay to be in some overmonitized club or some shit. I am long out of school. Meeting people seems next to impossible nowadays.
Hey the auto workers are striking now… can we just like… do a general strike already?
You are so close to understanding … as long as there are roads … there will be traffic …
The solution isn’t build more roads and enable car culture more, the solution is to stop catering to cars and build less roads. Instead build more public transit. Literally stop catering to cars, make cars less viable as a transportation method by limiting how much space is available to them. Cities can work just fine without cars.
Can you elaborate on what “subpoenable information” means. Like I have a vague idea but im not super clear if thats like a legal term with special considerations or whatever. Elaboration would be helpful.
