Me not having any chat because I don’t have any friend
Me too, and Lemmy inspired me to unsub! 😉
Developing software and managing a community are totally different skills and mastering both is not to be taken for granted.
Plus, since you are very passionate about the open source projects you maintain or contribute to, it is difficult to “detach” yourself from people’s issues and not feel every criticism as a personal attack (and yes, when your software does not have the features/behavior they expect, some people can express their disappointment in quite a sharp way).
I prefer not to make anyone pay anything but “you get what it is, be warned that you may experience some bugs or lack of support for certain devices” (because I can’t buy every piece of hardware and test). Few people have accepted this model but, those who did, have always been supportive and respectful, making me rediscover a little hope that kindness isn’t dead at all.
The first time some random user files a sue in court the admins of their instance will be in trouble.
Lemmy devs are not affected, but instance admins are and according to the GDPR they are considered “data controllers” and are responsible for the processing of users’ data.
As far as I understand it, this lacking feature is an open “challenge” to existing regulation and legislators, maybe also to open people’s eyes about the fact that privacy claims are often not enforced even by those who claim to do so.
Their malicious compliance and resentful behavior is bad advertisement in any case, both for app developers and for users. Yes, most people don’t care but I hope some will realize who they are dealing with.
Jerboa is awesome and has got better and better over time. And it being open source is a great value given to the whole Lemmy community. Whenever I have doubts, I look at Jerboa’s code as a sacred book for guidance, meditation and inspiration 😂 once you get accustomed to some of their idiosyncrasies it has all the answers!
Never say never… adding a JVM flavour to convert it to a desktop app is technically possible and, even if some native parts would need to be reimplemented (gallery selection of images, etc) it would be a fun exercise to do so.
Really hope it matures and grows into a reliable and full-fledged client! Your help (reporting bugs, submitting feedback, suggesting ideas, etc.) has been very valuable so far 🙏
Programming aside, where I live in Southern Europe we have a tradition according to which leap years bring bad luck. After 2020, I don’t know what to expect… nuclear apocalypse maybe?
Wonder when Lollobrigida is going to ban smoking btw…
Lab-grown meat is equated to synthetic ingredients and ultra-processed foods which are known to raise health problems (but are not banned, not all additives at least and not everywhere).
Considering how politics goes these days, the producers of cultivated meat just hadn’t a grip on the ministry as strong as the farmer lobby. No ideological or public health reason whatsoever. And it’s not Italy, it’s just politics and business everywhere.
Today it’s Italy’s turn, maybe tomorrow someone else will be on the hot seat.
Thank you for your appreciation! We actually have more than one (Vesuvio, Etna, Stromboli, etc.) and please don’t underestimate earthquakes.
No, I just cross posted it. Now the original post on blahaj has been edited but this one retained the old image. So I uploaded a new one here with the source.
I cross posted it light-heartedly assuming the original poster had not infringed any intellectual property. Thanks for the emendation, content should not be stolen online.
Misinformation has already spread in the continent. This will be downvoted but “too little, too late” is the only thing that comes to my mind reading that piece of news.
Oh no I’ve been discovered! This is not a safe place any more…
Had the same thought!
Some of them would be recommend even for non-Linux users, apart from being entertaining, they are extremely informative about open source/tech topics in general.
Maybe try to seduce policemen being better at sexting?
