I do agree but Steam’s app isn’t bad. It’s great if you use Steam’s social features and it makes secure login a total breeze.
This hate for 2FA is bizarre to me. Sure, it’s not as convenient but in this day and age, with all the threats out there, there’s no real excuse for not using it.
Zorin OS has a lite version, you could test that and see if it works. Besides, it’s one of the best distros for people used to Windows so it wouldn’t require much work to help people to figure out how to use it.
Video player? Absolutely. However, it leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to music. I use Strawberry for music, personally, as I like the added metadata features it offers.
I like Audacious but it lacks the Winamp features of later builds. Went for Strawberry instead when I migrated to FOSS.
Looks great! I’ve been rocking Strawberry for a little while now since I decided to finally retire Winamp, but this looks like it might be better in terms of the UI!
Every company would. They’re not going to go out of business over one customer. What’s important is that they weren’t able to give any important information.
Proton Pass. If you’re comfortable with cloud E2EE managers, it’s far more worth it than Bitwarden, since you get unlimited email aliases. Better for privacy and even security. Plus, I trust Proton, they have a phenomenal track record in terms of security and encryption.
Best weather app I’ve used. FOSS but unlike most FOSS weather apps, it doesn’t FEEL like your typical FOSS alternative.
Kotatsu and Mira, both on F-Droid. Kotatsu makes it easier to read manga without a subscription and you can add your own DRM-free manga. Mira is similar but adds anime and K-drama streaming as an option as well.
Even though I am subbed to Crunchyroll, having an option to watch if I have to cancel to save money, that’s very helpful.
The dumb part about that, though, is that it’s considerably easy to spin up a forum with a free forum host and you get significantly more control and customization than what Discord gives.
I find that some Matrix clients make it easy to build and interact with a community. Even Element has a lot of Discord’s core features, it just lacks the streaming and some of the gaming-related stuff. Otherwise, Matrix rooms are sufficient for building an “easy to chat” community.
Discord is only good for coordinating game events and helping to facilitate gaming community engagement. I’m so sick of everyone pushing it as the central hub of everything social and the idea of entire projects centered around Discord is absolutely ludicrous.
It will be if digital ID rolls out with CBDCs.
Cool concept but I’d genuinely rather an Invidious proxy integration (like Freetube) over SponsorBlock or bringing back dislikes.
That’s odd, did you go to an artist’s page directly? I just listen to full albums rather than creating a queue so maybe that’s why I didn’t encounter the issue you’re describing.
Try RiMusic on F-Droid. FOSS front-end to YT Music, like having Premium without a subscription. Aside from some crashing and offline downloads issues, it’s great.
Yep. I used Winamp (and still do to an extent) but wanted to find a FOSS alternative that I can start slowly leaning into so it’s painless when I migrate to Linux next year. So far, Strawberry is the only one I’ve found that I enjoy using on a daily basis.
Rhythmbox and Strawberry are the best, IMO. Rhythmbox has a lower impact on system resources but Strawberry is ideal for people with extensive music collections that you store offline like I do.
Sure, I don’t disagree, it shouldn’t be a requirement but because the app is good and makes the process easy, I don’t have a problem with it.
